About Us

The Hmong people lived in remote regions where electricity and technology was far from reach. We were poor and had nothing else to eat besides what we grew. The diet of a traditional Hmong person was very simple. It consisted of rice, greens and if lucky a little bit of meat. As Hmong people, we have always had a deep appreciation for the earth. Our history is very much embedded in our food and way of life.

After the Vietnam War, Tang Her and Chersue Chang traveled to the United States. Both arrived separately and later they met and got married. They settled in Wausau, Wisconsin and had four children. In Wisconsin they decided to embark on the business of farming Ginseng. That journey lasted from 1994-2004.

In 2003 the family moved to Hickory, North Carolina. Chersue and Tang bought a gas station. They spent a few years in the business until they sold it off. And went back to working for local companies. In 2008, their daughter Zabeth started college at The Art of Charlotte. She graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Marketing and right after she moved to New York City. There she spent four years living in the concrete jungle. With piles of debt she moved back to North Carolina in 2014. Chersue and Tang visited Kansas the following Summer and they felt inspired to start on a new business venture. Hickory was losing jobs and they fell into many financial hardships. After that trip they spent time researching many farms and decided it was time to move to Kansas. North Carolina was too competitive and Chersue saw a lack of high quality cut-flowers in the KC metro area. Knowing Zabeth had a creative side Chersue asked if she would be willing to move. After that Chersue, Tang and Zabeth dug their first dahlia bulbs in the October of 2015. Chersue and his oldest son, Dang, moved to Tonganoxie, Kansas in October of 2015. They planted their first crop of tulips by that Winter. Zabeth and Tang followed in January of 2016.

Dang's Gardening started it's first official season that April of 2016. The Chang family originally farmed on family farm until they bought a home with five acres in Kansas City, Missouri. Currently they sell vegetables and cut flowers servicing Topeka, KS and the KC Metro area.
